Dr John S. Ambler

One of a small number of Australian ophthalmologists to restrict their practice to diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous, Dr Ambler brings a wealth of expertise to the Vision Centre team.
As well as vitreoretinal surgery, Dr Ambler specialises in macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and retinal laser.
After graduating with honours from Sydney University, Dr Ambler was awarded the Cedric Cohen Medal for Excellence at the Part 1 Examination of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He completed his training at the Sydney Eye Hospital in 1986.
Following post-specialist training in vitreoretinal disease at the Lions Eye Institute in Perth, he undertook two further years of dedicated vitreoretinal sub-speciality training at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio USA. Dr Ambler has published numerous papers on various aspects of retinal disease, especially retinal detachment and has served as senior lecturer in ophthalmology at the University of Queensland.
Dr Ambler operates at the Queensland Day Surgery and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane . He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. He is also a member of both the American Retina and Vitreous Societies.
